【No Frame/Poster Only】Le Bassin des Nympheas / The Nymphs’ Basin (1904) Monet began creating a garden known as the “Water Garden” with a Japanese-style drum bridge around 1893 at his home. Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a leading French Impressionist painter who brought innovation to the depiction of light and color. The name of the Impressionist movement is derived from his masterpiece “Impression, Sunrise” (1872). Monet was deeply interested in landscapes and the changes in nature, pursuing the fleeting qualities of light. He was particularly passionate about depicting light reflections on water surfaces, the movement of plants, and seasonal landscapes. His works include the “Water Lilies” series depicting the gardens of Giverny, a village along the Seine River near Paris, as well as series like the Rouen Cathedral and Haystacks. These series express the changes in light and color by depicting the same subject at different times of day and in varying weather conditions. In his later years, as his eyesight deteriorated, his work became characterized by bold brushwork and rich colors, which were appreciated as a new form of expression. Monet’s works capture the transient sensations typical of Impressionism, evoking strong emotions in viewers. His innovative approach has significantly influenced contemporary art.
