It is hoped that readers will enjoy the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji in this book, just as Hokusai intended, and as people of the time delighted in it. Upon Hokusai’s passing at the age of 90, he left behind the following words: “If Heaven would grant me ten more years, or even five, I could become a true artist.” Throughout his life, Hokusai drew many jokes and mistakes. However, there is no falsehood in these final words of Hokusai. They are his true words.
